2004 Reunion – Norfolk

The USS Rankin Association's first reunion was held in Norfolk, Virginia from October 28-31, 2004, at the Norfolk Airport Hilton. The reunion was attended by 297 shipmates and guests. Our reunion managers tell us that first reunions of ships of the Rankin's size typically draw about 50 people. We attribute our huge crowd to the fact that, during every one of her 22 years in commission, the Rankin was a proud ship with outstanding morale.
The reunion was a huge success, with several people calling it "the greatest event of my life!"
Our tours included Williamsburg and Yorktown, the Nauticus museum and USS Wisconsin, a harbor cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk, and a bus tour of the Norfolk Naval Base.
We created a slide show, with rousing music, to preserve the memories of this event. You can see it by clicking HERE.
For further memories of this reunion, we have this Main Page plus two others. Use the buttons below to view the 2004 Reunion Memory Book, including pictures of all attendees and a recap of all our activities, or to view other photos from the reunion.
